Last weekend, Gibson Pyle was at a junior day in Nebraska. It was his second trip to Nebraska in about a month. Pyle said he knew he was going to be a Husker after his first trip. The second trip was for his family to travel with him so they could see him there. The three-star IOL by On3 is the No. 112 player in Texas and the No. 48 IOL in the nation.

“I had the thought in my mind the first weekend I visited Nebraska,” Pyle said. “I wanted my mom and step-dad to see there as well, so I came back for the big junior day. I had my mind made up, and I told my family the news.”

Pyle said there was a great reaction from the Nebraska staff after he called them to give them the news. He spoke to the head coach and his position coach at first then some of the staff called him back to celebrate with him.

“It was great! Coach Rhule and coach Raiola were really fired up. They were talking to me about getting the pipeline back. That got me going. I got a FaceTime from some of the other staff. Coach Omar FaceTimed me, and he was screaming so loud that he was cutting out.”

If it wasn’t clear before that Nebraska is serious about recruiting Texas it should be now. The first two commitments in the 2024 recruiting class for Nebraska are from Texas.

“It’s huge that Nebraska is serious about recruiting Texas,” Pyle said. “It was big for me for them to come here and recruit the state of Texas, and obviously, it’s Nebraska and Texas kids know all about Nebraska. It’s a great thing, and I am super fired up about it because we will get more Texas kids.”

Pyle is rated as an IOL by On3 and Nebraska also sees him playing inside for them at the next level. He’s played tackle through his junior year and there is a chance he will move inside next year at Houston (Texas) Klein Cain.

“They see me playing inside. Coach Raiola said besides the 6-foot-9 tackles that, everyone gets a chance to snap at practice, and he sees me at center or guard. I am really up for anything.

“I think that it’s a good thing to move inside. It becomes more of a battle than speed. Going inside should be a smooth transition, and my high school coach is considering putting me inside my senior year.”

Pyle will be in Lincoln for the spring game. It will be his third visit to Nebraska in three months. There are plans for Pyle to take an official visit to Nebraska. He wants to schedule his visit on the same weekend of some other players he plans to recruit to Nebraska.

“I will obviously be taking an official visit to Nebraska,” Pyle said. “I am waiting to see who else is planning on taking an official visit to Nebraska so I can plan to take my visit with them that weekend. I am going to want to recruit a lot of people to come with me. I will still be in Lincoln for the spring game.”

It was a fun phone call followed by several tough ones for Pyle. He grew close to some of the other staffs that had been recruiting him, but most of them had a feeling this was coming.

“It was pretty difficult,” Pyle said. “From my Twitter, they kind of knew. You build some great connections with the staff at other schools, but it’s their job; they have done this before. They do feel like family. You have to choose one at some point.”

Pyle is looking forward to getting focused on football again. Spring practices are around the corner, and he wants to get back to work with his team and also work on his body getting ready for his senior year.
