Nebraska opposite Merritt Beason named the AVCA National Player of the Week
Nebraska volleyball opposite hitter Merritt Beason is the AVCA National Player of the Week. She had two solid matches in the Huskers’ wins over Northwestern and Wisconsin.
Beason was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.
The junior opposite averaged 4.25 kills per set and 1.75 digs per set. She added five blocks and two aces in Nebraska’s two week-eight matches.
In NU’s sweep over Northwestern, Beason had 13 kills and a .323 hitting percentage. She had seven digs, three blocks and an ace.
In Nebraska’s win over then-No. 1 Wisconsin, the 6-foot-3 opposite had a match-high 21 kills with seven digs, two blocks and an ace. She scored a match-high 23 points.
In set three, Beason had six kills and hit .455. She led the team with six kills and hit .215 in the fourth set to help Nebraska force a fifth.
Beason has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week three times this season. She is the Huskers’ first three-time Big Ten Player of the Week in the same season since Mikaela Foecke in 2018.

This is Nebraska’s first AVCA National Player of the Week award of the season. She is the first Husker to win the award since 2017.
Freshmen setter Bergen Reilly was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week on Monday as well. She is the first three-time Big Ten Setter of the Week since Kelly Hunter in 2016.
Reilly averaged 11 assists per set and 2.88 digs per set in Nebraska’s two matches. She had 50 assists against the Badgers with 17 digs, four kills and three blocks.
She led Nebraska with 38 assists and helped NU hit .395 against Northwestern. This week, she added six kills, three aces and three blocks.
Nebraska volleyball has won at least one Big Ten weekly award each of the past six weeks.
