Nebraska recruiting: Benjamin Brahmer decommits
Another member of the 2023 class for Nebraska has decommitted from the Huskers. Benjamin Brahmer had taken some gameday visits to Ames to check out Iowa State during the season once Scott Frost was relieved of his duties at Nebraska. Brahmer’s Twitter bio reflected that he is now committed to Iowa State.
Brahmer had added his name to the list of recruits that have decommitted from Nebraska. What’s more is that Brahmer also committed to Iowa State who he told HuskerOnline some time ago that he was still considering.
Rhule and staff tried with Brahmer
There aren’t any great immediate substitutions for Brahmer in the class and Matt Rhule and his staff did their best to keep Brahmer committed. The Nebraska staff were at the Brahmer’s house on Saturday and there was an opportunity for Brahmer to visit Lincoln on both Sunday and this coming weekend which he chose not to do. It seems this flip was a long time coming.

In fact, Nebraska was scheduled to be in-home with Brahmer last night. A known plane that Nebraska has been using for recruiting had a flight scheduled to Norfolk last night. The flight was scheduled, but was later canceled.
Story Link: Nebraska making it clear that Carter Nelson is a key target
New targets
This is tough. There aren’t a lot of 2023 high school targets out there that are jumping out. Taking this section a little different direction the answer here could be more of a three-headed answer. That answer could be retaining current tight ends like Thomas Fidone, going into the transfer portal for a player like Jaheim Bell who played tight end at South Carolina for Nebraska’s new offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield. Additionally, Nebraska needs to work hard to keep 2024, in-state tight end Carter Nelson home. Nelson is one of the top 2024 players in the state next year and could be the best collegiate prospect to come out of eight man football in Nebraska high school football history.
