Nebraska running back Anthony Grant suspended from team
Nebraska’s first spring practice of 2023 was followed by some big news, as head coach Matt Rhule announced that running back Anthony Grant was suspended.
The senior’s status with the team was “day to day.” Rhule said the suspension wasn’t for “anything bad” but that Grant needed time to focus on academics and other things.
“Anthony Grant’s not with us right now,” Rhule said. “I’ve suspended Anthony until such time that I feel he’s ready to rejoin the team. Working on academics and just general things with him. Nothing bad other than just sort of our standards as a program…
“Good kid, we just have to get him pointed in the right direction.”

When they arrived this winter, Rhule and his staff immediately saw potential in the former Florida State and New Mexico Military Institute transfer.
Running backs coach E.J. Barthel said in January that “the sky’s the limit” for Grant.
“He’s got a chance to be pretty special,” Barthel said. “He’s a very powerful runner.”
Rhule also announced he had suspended cornerback/receiver Tommi Hill, whose status is day-to-day.
Hill started the first four games of 2022 at cornerback before moving to receiver for the final seven contests. He posted 17 tackles and four pass breakups while averaging 18.4 yards on 12 kickoff returns.
