Nebraska softball falls to UCLA 4-2 in Big Ten Tournament

No. 3 Nebraska softball’s Big Ten Tournament trip ends at the hands of No. 2 UCLA (49-9, 17-5) and Kaitlyn Terry in a 4-2 loss.
The Huskers (39-13, 17-5) fell in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals in West Lafayette, Ind. The Bruins advanced to the Big Ten Championship to face No. 8 Michigan or No. 12 Purdue on May 10 at 3 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Tournament.
UCLA left-handed pitcher Kaitlyn Terry and her rise ball and curveball mystified the Huskers. She allowed two hits, no runs and struck out 13 batters in seven innings.

Right-handed pitcher Jordy Bahl allowed nine hits, four runs and struck out 11 in six innings. The first-ever Big Ten Player and Pitcher of the Year hit two batters with a pitch and had one wild pitch.
Hannah Camenzind led the Huskers with two RBIs and went 2-of-3 at the plate. She hit a 2-RBI triple in the sixth to make it 3-2.
UCLA bats and Terry too much for Huskers
The Bruins got on the board first. Savannah Pola hit a single back at Bahl, and the throw to first was not in time. Jordan Woolery hit a double to right field for Pola to score and UCLA to go up 1-0. Pola and Woolery are Big Ten First Team selections.
Terry was fantastic in the circle for UCLA. The sophomore retired seven straight Huskers. She walked Olivia DiNardo with two outs in the top of the fourth to end the streak. But struck out Hannah Camenzind to leave DiNardo on base.
The Bruins struck again as Sophia Mujica hit a 2-RBI home run to left field to go up 3-0 in the fourth.

The Huskers’ only hit of the first four innings was a single to left field by H. Camenzind in the top of the second. Terry sat down the next two batters in the second. Ava Bredwell‘s single up the middle in the fifth ended the drought.
Bahl gave up back-to-back singles to Pola and Woolery in the bottom of the fifth. She struck out first-team Big Ten pick Megan Grant, but a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Bahl struck out Alexis Ramirez and Rylee Slimp to end the half-inning.
H. Camenzind continued to see the ball well vs. Terry. In the sixth inning, she hit a triple to right field for Sammie Bland and Ava Kuszak to score after they hit back-to-back singles. The Huskers cut UCLA’s lead to 3-2.
The Bruins fought back immediately with a lead-off home run from Bragg in the sixth to go up 4-2. After two outs, Clements singled up the middle. Bahl sat down Pola for the first time in the game to end the sixth.
Terry sat down the last three Huskers to finish her outstanding game and advance her team to the Big Ten Championship.
