Bahl makes case for Player of the Year honor
Bahl continues to make a case for the National Player of the Year honor. She is a top 10 finalist for the NFCA honor.
The redshirt junior hit a lead-off home run to continue to set the tone vs. SLU. The homer broke Nebraska’s single-season home run record with 23 home runs. The previous record was set by Ali Viola in 1998 with 22 homers.
Her first four hits of the Baton Rouge Regional and her NCAA Tournament career were home runs. Bahl has either hit a home run or been walked in her first nine at-bats in the regional. She hit a single in her 10th at bat and second vs. SLU on Sunday.
Bahl is the fourth college softball player to hit 20 home runs and earn 20 wins in the circle. She has 23 homers and 25 wins. The Papillion, Neb. native could be the first ever to eclipse 25 homers and 25 wins.
Next up – No. 7 Tennessee
Nebraska softball travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to go head-to-head with No. 7 Tennessee for a trip to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. Bahl and Karlyn Pickens, two of the best pitchers in the country, will be a must-see matchup.
Nebraska upset No. 6 Tennessee in their first game of the season on Feb. 6. NU won 7-1 in Clearwater, Fla. The victory showed the nation what the Huskers are capable of.
“Our team is fired up to be going to Knoxville,” Bahl said on ESPN+ postgame. “But at the same time, we have talked repeatedly about postseason is about doing what we do and taking care of our business, and it shouldn’t matter who’s in the other dugout. We go out there and play our game, every time so that’s our focus.”
The Huskers aim to take down the Vols and advance to their first WCWS since 2013.
