Nebraska tight end coach Bob Wager resigns after 'driving offense,' Josh Martin promoted to full-time staff

Nebraska released some surprising news on Friday evening. Tight ends coach Bob Wager announced his resignation after receiving a citation for “a driving offense that I regret immensely.”
“It is with great remorse that I resign from my position as assistant football coach at the University of Nebraska,” Wager wrote in a statement. “Earlier this week, I received a citation for a driving offense that I regret immensely.
“I am grateful for the opportunity extended to me, and sincerely sorry for any negativity my poor decision has brought to my family, our team, our staff, and all those that I have disappointed.”

Wager joined NU head coach Matt Rhule’s staff this offseason after serving 26 years as a Texas high school coach. That included spending the past 17 seasons leading Arlington (Texas) Martin High School 2006 to 2022.
In the wake of Wager’s departure, Nebraska promoted special teams analyst Josh Martin as its new full-time tight ends coach. Martin coached tight ends at SMU and Arizona State for the past seven years before joining Rhule’s staff.
Rhule’s next scheduled media availability will be Monday after the Huskers open fall camp.
