Nebraska Volleyball has landed opposite hitter Allie Sczech from the transfer portal, she announced on Instagram on Jan. 26. Sczech, a former Baylor Bear, has one season of eligibility. The Huskers added Sczech to the roster to fill the role of 2023 First Team All-American Merritt Beason.

Sczech graduates in May 2025 with degrees in corporate communication and journalism. She will start her master’s degree at the University of Nebraska. She will join the Huskers after graduation.

The 6-foot-4 opposite hitter started all three seasons at Baylor. She played in 92 matches and 333 sets for the Bears.

“I’m so blessed to announce I will be pursuing a master’s degree in Professional Journalism and continuing my athletic career at the University of Nebraska!” Sczech said on Instagram. “All glory to God and hope to be a light in Lincoln this fall!”

Sczech’s best season was her junior year. She averaged 2.44 kills per set and hit .273. The Sugarland, Texas native added 0.65 blocks per set and 0.73 digs per set. Sczech recorded a career-high 105 blocks as a freshman in 2022.

The Bears finished 23-8 overall and 14-4 in the Big 12 in 2024. Their season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in a five-set loss to Dayton. Sczech recorded 21 kills, six blocks and hit .463 against the Flyers. In Baylor’s first-round game vs. Wofford, she recorded 12 kills and hit .600.

She was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2022 and 2024. Sczech was on the 2022 All-Big 12 Rookie and the 2023 Preseason All-Big 12 teams.

At George Ranch High School and Houston Skyline’s Club team, Sczech was the No. 32 recruit nationally. She was a 2021 AVCA First Team High School All-American. The opposite hitter was named the District 20-6A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year.

Nebraska needed to reload after the huge loss of Beason. She had a fantastic junior season but dropped off in 2024. Her outstanding leadership will be deeply missed.

The Huskers picked up one of the two best opposites in the portal. Wisconsin added former Miami opposite Grace Lopez.

Sczech was brought in to start for the Huskers at opposite in 2025. But she will not be without competition.

Freshman Ryan Hunter is entering Nebraska as the 30th recruit in the class of 2025 by PrepDig.com. Unfortunately, the Charlotte, North Carolina native tore her ACL playing with club Triangle in the spring of 2024.

She was cleared to return to volleyball activities in December 2024. However, Nebraska might look to redshirt her in 2025 to build up her strength and spend a year developing.

Hunter has a bright future. But the addition of Sczech adds a much-needed experienced attacker to Nebraska’s roster.
