Nebraska Volleyball earns six AVCA All-Region honors

Nebraska Volleyball had five players named to the AVCA All-Region Teams. Those players are eligible to be All-Americans. Nearly all of the Huskers’ starters made an All-Region Teams.

Libero Lexi Rodriguez, Opposite Merritt Beason, Setter Bergen Reilly, Outside Hitter Harper Murray and Middle Blocker Andi Jackson earned All-Region honors. All five players have earned the honor previously. Four were named All-Americans in 2023.

Rodriguez is the West Region Player of the Year. Creighton Head Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth is the West Region Coach of the Year.

Nebraska and Creighton dominated the West Region. Four Bluejays were selected on the All-Region team – L Maddy Bilinovic, Merritt Beason Elise Goetzinger, OH Ava Martin, OH Norah Sis and S Kendra Wait. BYU’s Alex Bower is the Region Freshman of the Year.

In 2023, Rodriguez and Beason were AVCA First Team All-Americans. Reilly was named a Second Team All-American and Murray received Third Team honors. Beason was the 2023 Region Player of the Year.

The honorees

Rodriguez is a four-time All-Region Team selection and a three-time All-American. She is poised to earn her fourth All-American award this season. She leads Nebraska with 3.81 digs per set and adds 114 total assists. The senior captain is a four-time All-Big Ten First Team honoree and has won the Defensive Player/Libero of the Year award three times. She is statistically one of the best passers in the country and has been for four seasons.

Beason, Rodriguez’s co-captain, averages 3.69 points per set with 2.94 kills per set. The opposite hitter is hitting .248 so far in 2024. She is by far Nebraska Volleyball’s best blocking pin hitter with 0.94 blocks per set. Beason is a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten pick. She is the reigning AVCA Region Player of the Year. Her leadership and dominance on the right pin are critical to Nebraska’s success.

Murray leads the Huskers with 3.84 points per set. She is hitting .261 with 3.29 kills per set. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter is much more efficient in her second season with the Huskers. She ranks second with 0.29 aces per set. Murray is a two-time All-Big Ten First-Team pick. She was the 2023 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the AVCA Region Freshman of the Year.

Reilly is the orchestrator of Nebraska Volleyball’s high-power offense. The Huskers are hitting .290, the second-highest in the conference, with Reilly at setter. She led the Big Ten with 11.10 assists per set during the regular season. The 6-foot-0 setter averages 2.9 digs per set. The sophomore is the back-to-back Big Ten Setter of the Year and was the first freshman to win the honor in 2023. Reilly is in the running for a First-Team All-American selection.

Last but not least is the Husker’s most improved player, Jackson. The middle blocker made a huge jump from her freshman to sophomore season. She averages 2.57 kills per set, which is the third highest for Nebraska. Jackson averages .50 more kills per set and improved her hitting percentage from .399 to .435 in 2024. She was named on the All-Big Ten First Team for the first time in her career and is on track to being a first-time All-American.
