Nebraska volleyball legend Jordan Larson named Husker Assistant Coach
One of the best to ever do it, former Nebraska volleyball player Jordan Larson, is returning home to the Huskers to become an assistant coach.
Larson is one of the greatest American volleyball players in history and was the Most Valuable Player when the U.S. won its first Olympic women’s volleyball gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.
At Nebraska, Larson led the Huskers to the 2006 National title and finished runner-up in 2005. The Hooper, Neb. native was a three-time All-American and a two-time first-team All-Amercian. Larson was a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and the 2008 Big 12 Player of the Year.

“One of the greatest honors of being the Nebraska volleyball coach is when I have the opportunity to coach with a former player,” Head Coach John Cook said. “Jordan and I have talked for years about coaching at Nebraska. She will bring a wealth of experience that she can share with our players. There is no place like Nebraska!”
Larson will join the Huskers’ program in September when her summer playing schedule has wrapped up.
The outside hitter joins Nebraska assistant coaches Jaylen Reyes and Kelly Hunter. The Huskers are already benefitting massively from the NCAA Division I Councils’ decision to allow teams that utilize a volunteer coach to add a full-time coach position beginning this season.

Hunter won two national championships (2015 and 2017) for the Huskers as an all-American setter. Nebraska now has all three of Cook’s national championships as a Husker represented on the staff.
While Larson is one of the most experienced players in the world, she doesn’t have much coaching experience. She was an assistant coach at Texas during the spring of 2022 but decided to continue her playing career instead.
However, Larson, the star of some of the Huskers’ best teams, has lots to team the Nebraska players.
“I am very excited to be returning to Nebraska,” Larson said. “I can’t wait to learn and help the next generation of volleyball players. It has felt so good to be home, even for a short time, and I can’t wait to join the team in the fall. I really appreciate John giving me this opportunity. Go Huskers!”
