Four Nebraska Women's Basketball players earn Big Ten honors
Nebraska Women’s Basketball had four players receive a Big Ten honor on Tuesday.
Junior Alexis Markowski is an All-Big Ten First Team selection and senior Jaz Shelley earned a second-team honor. Natalie Potts was selected by the coaches as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She was also on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and was given an honorable mention. Logan Nissley was also on the All-Freshman team.
Senior Maddie Krull is Nebraska’s Sportsmanship Award honoree. The guard from Omaha, Neb. averaged 2.5 points per game and 1.8 rebounds

The conference announced the honors before the TIAA Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament on March 6-9 in Minneapolis, Minn. The Huskers, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, take on the winner of No. 12 Purdue and No. 13 Northwestern on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. CT.
Forward Natalie Potts is the Coaches’ Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The freshman was also on the All-Freshman Team and an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. She won eight of the 17 Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
Potts averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during the regular season. The 6-foot-2 athlete shot .533 on field goals, .216 from three-point range and .855 at the free throw line. The O’Fallon, Mo. native recorded four double-doubles.
Junior Alexis Markowski is a first-team selection and for good reason as she ranks in the top 10 in several Big Ten categories. Her 10.7 rebounds per game is second, her points per game (15.9) is seventh and her .477 field goal percentage ranks ninth in the conference. She also has the No. 18 highest free throw percentage.
The Lincoln, Neb. native is a two-time All-Big Ten Second Team selection. She was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2022. Additionally, the 6-foot-3 center was the conference’s leading rebounder in 2023 with 322 total rebounds and 9.8 per game. Her 2023 rebound average ranked her No. 1 in Nebraska history. She is also No. 3 with 38 career double-doubles.

Senior Jaz Shelley is a Second-Team All-Big Ten for the second time in her career. She was a second-team selection in 2022 and on the first-team in 2023. The 5-foot-9 guard was named the Big Ten Player of the Week and the AP National Player of the Week after NU upset Iowa in Lincoln. Shelley had 23 points and five assists.

Shelley owns the only two Triple-Doubles in Nebraska Women’s Basketball history. She recorded one against UNC Wilmington with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. During her senior year and third year at Nebraska, she averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.07 assists per game.
In the regular season, Shelley’s .885 free-throw percentage ranked second in the conference. Her three-point percentage (.339) ranks 10th, and her threes made per game rank seventh. Her 5.2 assists per game is No. 6 and her assist-to-turnover ratio of two is fifth.
Last but not least, Logan Nissley was also named on the Big Ten All-Freshman team with Potts. She averages 6.4 points per game and 2.1 rebounds. The Bismarck, N.D. native scored a career-high 18 points against Purdue, going 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
With two freshmen receiving honors and Markowski returning in 2024, Nebraska has a strong foundation for the future.
