QB Daniel Kaelin cancels visit to Michigan State; remains solid to Nebraska
Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class received another big boost Friday. Bellevue (Nebraska) West quarterback Daniel Kaelin did not take an official visit to Michigan State.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound signal caller canceled his trip to East Lansing and remains a solid commit to the Huskers, according to two sources close to Kaelin.

Beside the Spartans, Oregon and Florida also made a run at Kaelin this week. Kaelin has been committed to the Huskers since May 20, but the potential circumstances began to change when Buford (Georgia) five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola re-entered the picture for Nebraska.
Raiola is currently on campus for an official visit, and it appears the Husker coaching staff, led by offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield, has laid out an excellent plan for Kaelin, where sticking with the Big Red is ultimately his best option.
No Huskers’ 2024 recruiting class member has been more dedicated than Kaelin, helping head coach Matt Rhule put together his first full recruiting class in Lincoln.
Kaelin played a key role in landing Ainsworth (Nebraska) tight end Carter Nelson and Logan-Magnolia (Iowa) offensive lineman Grant Brix — currently the two highest-ranked recruits in NU’s 2024 signing class.
Once Kaelin committed on May 20, he jump-started a run where the Big Red landed 15 of its current 24 commitments from June 1 to July 16.

Kaelin helps NU solidify QB position for the future
The decision by Kaelin to stick with the Huskers now helps Rhule solidify the quarterback position for the future.
Keeping Kaelin makes the likelihood very high that the Huskers will take two high school quarterbacks in the class of 2024 if they can close on Raiola this weekend.
Nebraska has quite a hole on its quarterback recruiting chart, as the Huskers lost 2022 QB recruit Richard Torres to the transfer portal, and they did not sign a high school quarterback in 2023. Junior-to-be Heinrich Haarberg is the only scholarship quarterback the Huskers signed (2021) from the high school ranks that remains on the roster.
As a senior, Kaelin completed 187-of-319 passes (58.6%) for 2,225 yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions as the Thunderbirds were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs. Kaelin was also named a finalist at the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback event this summer. No Nebraska high school football quarterback has ever received that honor.
