Shawn Hammerbeck chooses Nebraska over Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Minnesota
Nebraska added a critical piece to the 2025 recruiting class. Shawn Hammerbeck, a 6-foot-5.5, 265-pound offensive tackle from Winner (S.D.), announced his commitment on Twitter/X to the Huskers. Hammerbeck, a high three-star with On3, chose the Huskers over Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Minnesota.
Hammerbeck is commitment No. 15 for Nebraska in the 2025 recruiting class. The Huskers picked up a valuable piece in the 2025 class with the two-way lineman.
After a great talk with @CoachMattRhule, I’m excited to announce I have received an offer from @HuskerFootball! pic.twitter.com/B6qh0QFUlp

“It’s close to home, and the relationships the players have with the coaches and the coaches have with the players makes it feel like a family,” Hammerbeck said. “They all care for each other, and it’s like a big family. It can be my second home.”
Hammerbeck picked up an offer from Nebraska in late April. The Huskers made him a priority from that point.
“We caught up with coach (Donovan) Raiola and coach (Matt) Rhule,” Hammerbeck said. “Coach Rhule is the one who offered me and left me with a message: They recruit good, genuine people, and that’s what they build their program on. Being from the Midwest, he thinks I would fit in well.”

Nebraska sees Hammerbeck as an offensive lineman in the commitment class. However, once he gets on campus, the Huskers will also evaluate Hammerbeck as a defensive lineman to see where he can best help the team.
“They say offensive tackle right now,” Hammerbeck said. “Once I get there, they will see which position is better. I don’t have a preference to the position.”
Hammerbeck joins two other offensive linemen in Nebraska’s class of 2025: offensive tackle Brian Tapu from Leyton (Utah) West and interior offensive lineman Houston Kaahaaina-Torres from Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis.
