Nebraska continues to add recruits to its 2023 recruiting class. The latest to commit is Sua Lefotu from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. Lefotu measured in at 6-foot-3 and 298-pounds last weekend in Lincoln and said the most significant reason he chose the Huskers was because of Matt Rhule and the rest of his coaching staff.

“The reason why I committed to Nebraska was because I really put my trust into the coaches,” Lefotu said. “I feel like I can trust them and that they are very trustworthy. Coach White and coach Knighton and I talked about my development and I am just really excited about that.

“The atmosphere at Nebraska is just different. It feels like, really felt like, home for me. And all of the players there were positive about the new coaching staff. I know that they all want success and that’s what they are going to bring to the program. Nebraska is a really special place.”

Sua Lefotu could be a versatile playing on DL for Nebraska

Nebraska told Lefotu that they could see him as a three-technique going to work on the guard or playing inside shade of the offensive tackle as a defensive end. Lefotu says that Nebraska is interested to see where his body takes him.

“As of right now, they like me the best at the three-technique and playing the 4i shade inside of the tackle. Coach White told me it all depends on my weight and my speed. I am ready to play wherever they want to play me.”

A Poly pipeline to Nebraska

Lefotu wants to help Nebraska bring more Polynesian players to Lincoln. He and his host during his official visit weekend really connected at Nebraska and they discussed being part of that plan.

“They wanted to mention that they wanted a lot more Polys on the team and to start a Poly pipeline to Nebraska,” Lefotu said. “I know that they have Brodie Tagaloa who hosted me and they have Noa Pola-Gates.

“It was a big part of my decision on who I wanted to commit to. That’s who I feel comfortable around, other Polynesians, and that’s what we had on the team at Bosco. Brodie made me feel very welcome and felt like we were brothers and we talked about wanting to get more Polynesians to come to Nebraska.”

National Signing Day details for Lefotu

Lefotu was planning on visiting Weber State this weekend but canceled the trip. He had trimmed his list down to a final three before choosing Nebraska.

“I didn’t take my official visit to Weber State this weekend. My final top three were Nebraska, Arizona State and Weber State.”

Lefotu says that Bosco has a signing day ceremony planned for National Signing Day at 7:30 PT in their auditorium on Wednesday morning.
