Top 40 Huskers for 2024: 6-10
With Nebraska’s 2024 season around the corner, the HuskerOnline team voted on the Top 40 Husker players going into Matt Rhule‘s second season in Lincoln.
The voting criteria were to rank the players based on their importance to the team, overall talent, and future potential for the upcoming season. Our voters focused specifically on the 2024 season, not future seasons, a player’s long-term importance, or future talent.
The voting panel consisted of HuskerOnline publisher Sean Callahan, columnist Steven Sipple, senior writer Robin Washut, and staff writer Abby Barmore. Each voter submitted their own Top 40 list from which the votes were tallied.
Our annual Top 40 Huskers series continues with players 16-20, a group of seasoned veterans who will be critical to Nebraska’s success in 2024.

10. Bryce Benhart, OL, Sr.
Nebraska’s offensive line received an early Christmas present last December when starting right tackle Bryce Benhart announced his return for a sixth season in 2024.
The 6-foot-9, 315-pound Benhart started all 12 games for NU this season and earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors. His 41 career starts, all at right tackle, tied Jeremiah Sirles for the most ever by a Husker offensive lineman.
After struggling mightily in 2022, Benhart’ became arguably the most improved player on NU’s o-line. He helped Nebraska rank second in the Big Ten in rushing.

9. Tommi Hill, CB, Sr.
A year ago, Tommi Hill’s future in the Nebraska football program looked in doubt. He moved from cornerback to receiver in 2022 after hitting rock bottom against Georgia Southern and Oklahoma.
Hill started the 2023 season out at cornerback but temporarily moved to wide-out again after a string of injuries. Defensive coordinator Tony White eventually moved Hill back to DB, and he led the Huskers with four interceptions and nine pass breakups.
Hill’s 13 passes defended were more than any Big Ten defensive back in league games. He returns in 2024 as the Huskers’ top cornerback and one of the best defensive backs on the roster.

8. Ty Robinson, DL, Sr.
While Nebraska’s spring was full of competition, Ty Robinson watched most of it from the sidelines. That’s because he was already one of the most proven commodities on the Huskers’ roster.

Despite starting 10 of 12 games, the Gilbert, Arizona, native set career highs with 29 tackles, six pass breakups, and 4.0 tackles for loss in 2023. That earned him honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors.
Robinson announced his return for a sixth season last November. He and fellow standout veteran Nash Hutmacher will give the Huskers one of the country’s most dominant interior defensive lines this season.

7. Jimari Butler, DL, Jr.
If you ask Nebraska defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, fans shouldn’t overlook junior Jimari Butler in any discussions about the Huskers’ d-line.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Butler set a career-high in 2023 with 34 tackles and led the defense with 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. His focus this offseason has been further developing as a pass rusher, especially becoming more effective off the edge.
Beyond his individual production, though, Butler has emerged as one of the team’s top vocal leaders. On a defense full of experience, Butler’s leadership makes him as valuable as any heading into 2024.

6. Ben Scott, C, Sr.
Ben Scott arrived at Nebraska last year as a transfer from Arizona State with high expectations. After claiming honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in his Husker debut, his bar has been raised even higher.
Scott played in all 12 games with 11 starts in 2023, helping NU rank second in the Big Ten in rushing offense. His return this season was big news for Nebraska’s o-line, as he’ll highlight a veteran unit in charge of protecting star freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Scott and Benhart’s experience and leadership – on and off the field – will be critical in paving the way for the Huskers’ offense in 2024.
