New Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is wasting no time filling out his coaching staff at Nebraska.

On Sunday, HuskerOnline confirmed that Evan Cooper had joined Rhule at Nebraska. Cooper has served as a cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator for Rhule at Temple, Baylor and Carolina.

The Athletic’s Joe Person confirmed that Carolina Panthers assistant defensive line coach Terrance Knighton and assistant strength coach Corey Campbell will also be joining Rhule in Lincoln. It’s unknown what their duties on the coaching staff will be.

Knighton brings eight years of NFL experience to Nebraska

The first thing that jumps out about Knighton is he brings eight years of NFL playing experience to the Huskers. He was a third-round NFL Draft pick in 2009.

Rhule was an assistant coach at Temple when Knighton played for the Owls. He coached at Wagner for two seasons before joining Rhule in Carolina in 2021.

As a player in the NFL, Knighton played for Jacksonville, Denver, Washington and New England. As a rookie with the Jaguars in 2009, he was named to the NFL’s All-Rookie team by multiple publications.

Meanwhile, Campbell has served as the Panthers’ assistant strength coach for the last two seasons. The former Georgia Bulldog has also had stops at Cincinnati (2016), Purdue (2017) and Baylor (2017-2021).

He’s carried the titles of assistant strength coach, assistant director of athletic performance and director of athletic performance.

The question is will he be Rhule’s head strength coach at Nebraska, or will he potentially be bringing Jeremy Scott to Lincoln as well?

Scott was Rhule’s strength coach at Temple, Baylor and Carolina. He spent five years as the strength coach at Temple (2013-2017) before following Rhule to Baylor and Carolina. Campbell worked under Scott at Baylor and Carolina.
