Washington dominates Nebraska Women’s Basketball 83-62 on Senior Day

Nebraska Women’s Basketball (18-10, 9-8) went ice cold in the second half to lose to Washington 83-62 on Senior Day.

In her last game in Pinnacle Bank Arena, center Alexis Markowski earned 19 points and 10 rebounds. She recorded her 51st double-double. She did not score in the second half. Jessica Petrie earned her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Nebraska had 15 turnovers, which Washington turned into 23 points. The Huskers shot 28.1 percent from the floor in the second half after shooting 56 percent in the first half.

Elle Ladine paced the Huskies (16-12, 7-9) with 28 points and was 11-of-18 from the field. Dalayah Daniels scored 21 points and had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Nebraska honored Markowski, Alberte Rimdal, Kendall Moriarty and Kendall Coley on Senior Day.

The Huskers hope that point guard Britt Prince is back for their game vs. Northwestern on March 2. The freshman missed its last two games with an ankle injury. She is day-to-day but did not have a boot on her right foot during the Washington game.

First quarter battle

Nebraska and Washington were tied at 21-21 after the first quarter.

Jessica Petrie led Nebraska Women’s Basketball with six points and two rebounds in the first quarter. Ladine recorded nine points and was 3-of-5 from the floor. Ladine was dominant in the first half. She scored 16 points.

After Markowski’s 5-0 run, Washington scored seven straight to take a 32-26 lead in the second quarter. Markowski ended the Huskies’ run with a jumper and the and-one free throw shot.

Kendall Coley was the only Husker to score outside Markowski in the second quarter. She made a jumper in the paint and drained the free-throw afterward. Markowski and Coley teamed up for a 6-0 run to tie the game 31-31.

Markowski scored 13 points in the second quarter after three points in the first.

Second-half meltdown

The Huskers went ice cold in the second half.

Washington went on a 15-0 run over the final six minutes in the third quarter. They led 60-42 heading into the final quarter.

After 13 second-quarter points, Markowski went scoreless in the third. Nebraska recorded five points in those 10 minutes. Logan Nissley drained a 3-pointer, and Rimdal made a layup, both shots on a fastbreak.

Washington outscored the Huskers 21-5 in the third quarter. Nebraska shot 11.8 percent from the field, while the Huskies went 10-of-17 from the floor.

The Huskers scored 20 points in the fourth quarter but could not overcome an 18-point third-quarter deficit. Nebraska Women’s Basketball went 4-of-6 from three in the fourth quarter.

Defense is on the top of Nebraska’s to-do list as they prepare for their final game of the Big Ten regular season vs. Northwestern on March 2 at 2 p.m. and the Big Ten Tournament.
