Notre Dame landed its highest-ranked offensive line commitment since 2016 this summer. That player is now an Irish signee.

Charles Jagusah, a four-star offensive tackle from Rock Island (Ill.) Alleman High School, signed his letter of intent Wednesday morning. Notre Dame has announced him as part of its 2023 class. He is the No. 42 overall player and No. 5 tackle in the On3 Consensus, making him the highest-ranked offensive player in the class. The Irish have not signed an offensive line prospect ranked that high since Tommy Kraemer (No. 36 overall) in 2016.

On3’s own rankings have Jagusah even higher. He’s a five-star recruit and the No. 10 overall player in the 2023 On300.

“A light-footed, easy mover who plays with innate flexibility at his size,” On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power wrote of Jagusah. “Has a strong base that he uses to balance and create power. Has some dominant flashes as a drive blocker and finisher. Also shows some natural tools that project well as a pass protector.”

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Jagusah committed to Notre Dame June 30. He chose the Irish over Michigan, Arkansas and Missouri. He took official visits to all four finalists in June and made his decision about a week after the last of those trips. Notre Dame got the final visit.

The Irish initially offered Jagusah in August 2021. That offer came from former offensive line coach Jeff Quinn, who was not retained following the 2021 season. Successor Harry Hiestand re-initiated contact and kept up the pursuit.

Jagusah’s pledge was the first of four commitments from 2023 recruits in a five-day span for Notre Dame. There was little fanfare around it. He did not schedule a ceremony or a live stream of his decision. He didn’t even hint at a time of day. He tweeted his decision and 8:06 a.m. CT, and that was that.

Notre Dame has four other offensive linemen in its 2023 class. This year marks the third straight recruiting cycle the Irish assembled a five-man offensive line class. Jagusah and Belmont (N.C.) South Point four-star Sullivan Absher are the tackles. The Irish have three interior linemen in the class: Topeka (Kan.) Hayden three-star Joe Otting, Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star Sam Pendleton and Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard West three-star Chris Terek.

Jagusah will enroll at Notre Dame in June.
