2024 four-star quarterback CJ Carr sets commitment date
One of the elite quarterbacks in the 2024 class has set a commitment date. Four-star Saline (Mich.) High quarterback CJ Carr will announce his college decision on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports HQ, per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.
Carr has six finalists: Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. He was present at the Irish Invasion camp on Sunday in South Bend where he spent time working with Irish offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. The 6-2, 195-pound signal-caller has visited Notre Dame a total of four times dating back to June 2021.
As it currently stands, Notre Dame is the heavy favorite to land Carr, sitting at 97.4 percent according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. No other school sits above 1 percent. Three recruiting insiders have put in predictions for Carr to pick the Irish: On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, Mike Singer of Blue & Gold and EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
Per On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Carr is the No. 5 quarterback, No. 1 player from Michigan and No. 23 player in the country in his class. On3’s own rankings are quite similar: No. 4, No. 1 and No. 31, respectively.

Carr is the grandson of legendary Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, who led the Wolverines from 1995-07 with a 122-40 record and won the 1997 national championship. Carr’s maternal grandfather is Tom Curtis, a former All-American and College Football Hall of Fame Michigan safety. Jason Carr, Lloyd’s son and CJ’s father, was a quarterback at Michigan in the 1990s. Carr’s mother, Tammi, also went to Michigan.

Carr helped lead Saline to a 9-1 record last fall (including going 7-0 in league play) as a sophomore. The 6-2, 195-pound rising junior is still relatively new to football but clearly excelled rapidly. He did not play tackle football until seventh grade, and his stock has soared since the end of the 2021 season.
He reports that he threw for 2,696 yards and 28 touchdowns with four interceptions, completing 156 of 243 attempts as a sophomore.
