2025 linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng has a special relationship with Notre Dame, and it’s not just because they were there early in his recruitment.

You read “Owusu” above, and you probably asked yourself “Is that…?”

Yes, he is the younger brother of former Notre Dame star and Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. And yes, that certainly plays a role in how he views the opportunity.

“That’s my older brother’s old school, so it was a big step for me,” Owusu-Boateng said of receiving his offer. “I was just happy and excited to be given the chance to have a scholarship offer from the University of Notre Dame.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker out of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic was Notre Dame’s second offer doled out to the 2025 class. He is not yet ranked by any of the major recruiting services, as he is just a freshman. But he is shaping up to be a highly touted defenseman when it comes time to move on to college football.

Owusu-Boateng was originally being recruited by former Irish defensive line coach Mike Elston, who has since taken the same job at Michigan. The rising sophomore has stayed in contact with the staff since the departure, including with head coach Marcus Freeman

BlueandGold.com spoke with him just after Notre Dame hired Al Golden to be the new defensive coordinator, so he had yet to learn much about him or speak with him, but he’s excited about the new staff.

As far as next steps go, Owusu-Boateng is just along for the ride for now, which makes sense given he has only completed one season of high school football. He knows a little about Notre Dame, and he will certainly start to learn more as he deepens his search.

“I know Notre Dame is a traditional school that also does very well academically,” Owusu-Boateng said.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, each of the seven schools that have offered the freshman hold a 14.3 percent chance of landing him. In addition to Notre Dame, his offers include Boston College, Maryland, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State and Pittsburgh. He said there is not a particular school that sticks out to him at this point.

Owusu-Boateng has been to Notre Dame to see his brother play, but he hasn’t been recently or in a capacity where he was looking at the school for himself. But he’s definitely going to go.

“Oh yeah, I will,” the freshman said emphatically when asked if he would make the trip north at some point.
