Notre Dame men’s basketball target Azavier Robinson has cut his list to five schools, he told On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton. The Irish are one of them.

Robinson, the No. 14 point guard and No. 94 overall player in the On3 Industry Ranking (but the No. 9 point guard and No. 73 overall player in On3’s own rankings), is considering Notre Dame alongside DePaul, Xavier, Butler and Cincinnati.

The Indianapolis Lawrence North star will officially visit South Bend on Sept. 20-22, when the Irish host Miami (Ohio) in football.

“Their play style stands out to me,” Robinson told Tipton about Notre Dame. “I’ve been there a lot of times since my freshman year. They were one of the first high-major programs to start recruiting me, definitely the first in-state.

“I have a good relationship with [head] coach [Micah] Shrewsberry, it’s one of the best relationships I have with a coach, I’ve known him for a while. He’s visited me a few times at my school and not to just watch me practice, but to just sit down with me and talk.”

Robinson had discussed scheduling a visit to Marquette in late May, but the Golden Eagles did not make his top-five list.

More on Robinson’s recruitment

Notre Dame is all hands on deck in its recruitment of Robinson. It seems to be paying off as his recruitment enters a critical stage.

Chris Giffin, Robinson’s head coach at Lawrence North, believes the Irish are one of his star player’s top-two teams.

“I think that’s Butler and Notre Dame in the top two, in no particular order,” Giffin said. “I feel like Butler and Notre Dame have been more consistent and more active, so to speak, all along.”

Rounding out Robinson’s top schools, at the moment, are Marquette and Xavier. The No. 9 point guard in On3’s own rankings told On3 national basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw in late May that he’d been discussing official visits with those four schools.

With Shrewsberry and assistant coach Ryan Owens (who has led much of Notre Dame’s Indiana recruiting efforts since joining the staff in 2023) at the forefront, Giffin believes the Irish have set themselves apart for Robinson.

Most recently, Lawrence North participated in Notre Dame’s Team Camp on June 13. Robinson spoke at length with Shrewsberry after his games were done, and Giffin said his team enjoyed the experience.

“[They’ve done a] phenomenal job,” Giffin said. “They’ve been transparent. They’ve been consistent with that recruitment. They’ve come to the school several times for lunch and whatnot, and done some recruiting presentations. Those have been well-thought out and very informative, and they’ve done a great job.”

Robinson has said he appreciates the lunch visits, when he has a chance to listen to Shrewsberry discuss his vision for the program and for himself as a player. He also hasn’t forgotten that the Irish were one of the first high-major programs involved in his recruitment.
