The Chicago Bears tight end room will now feature two Notre Dame football products. On Thursday, NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport reported the Bears are signing Durham Smythe, who was with the Fighting Irish from 2013-17.

Smythe, drafted 123rd overall and in the fourth round by the Miami Dolphins in 2018, joins fellow Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet in Chicago. Kmet and Smythe played the 2017 season together in South Bend. It was Kmet’s first and Smythe’s last.

Smythe appeared in 112 games across seven seasons for the Dolphins, totaling 132 catches for 1,228 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has made $16.3 million in his NFL career.

In addition to teaming up with Kmet, Smythe will reunite with the new Bears head coach, Ben Johnson, who was the Dolphins’ wide receivers coach in 2018.

The Bears’ roster also includes former Notre Dame long snapper Scott Daly. He was with the Irish from 2012-16.
