For the first time since the 2012 campaign, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are back in the National Championship Game. Following a 27-24 win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl, Marcus Freeman and his troops will face the winner of tonight’s Texas-Ohio State matchup Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
What started off as a defensive battle featured 31 points and two lead changes in the final frame. A Christian Gray interception that led to a Mitch Jeter field goal from 41 yards out with 26 seconds remaining kept the Irish vying for the program’s first national title since 1988.
