Everything Stanford coach Troy Taylor said after ‘demoralizing’ loss to Notre Dame
Stanford head coach Troy Taylor’s postgame press conference was roughly 57 minutes shorter than the weather delay that affected Saturday’s game between his Cardinal and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Reporters didn’t have much to ask Taylor about Notre Dame’s 49-7 victory in South Bend, which improved the Irish to 5-1 and dropped the Cardinal to 2-4.
Taylor deemed the defeat “demoralizing” in nature. Was it ever. Here is everything he said in his presser, which failed to reach the three-minute mark.
On how Notre Dame was able to decisively pull away from Stanford after the Cardinal started the game with promising series on both sides of the ball
“They outplayed us in all three phases. Offensively, we didn’t sustain blocks. Their block destruction was impressive. But yeah, they beat us in all three phases. They’re a better team than us and it showed. We’ll lick our wounds and be ready to play next week.”
On if there was any thought of not playing the fourth quarter when the weather delay hit with Notre Dame leading 42-7 at the end of the third quarter
“No, they thought the storm would go through. There was no talk of that.”
On Stanford turning the ball over
“It’s tough when you turn the ball over, for sure. These are good enough defenses that where you don’t hurt yourself it makes it difficult. We had the one on a read option where unfortunately it was a tough play. But there are other things we need to improve on in all areas, to be honest with you.”

On the kick return that led to Stanford starting a possession on its own three-yard line
“They said that he touched the ball earlier because he was out of bounds, he put his foot out of bounds to get the ball on the 35, and they had said he touched it before that. I took their word at it. I haven’t had a chance to evaluate it.”
On how Stanford can come back from losing two consecutive games in blowout fashion
“It’s demoralizing, for sure, when you’re a competitor. You’re going to probably for another 24 hours and then as a competitor you focus your attention on the next opponent. That’s just the way it works. If you lose, you got to be able to move on. We got a long season ahead of us. Lots of opportunities. This one hurts, obviously, but we’ll bounce back and be ready for the next weekend.”
