Newsstand: Former Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne announces second transfer destination
Drew Pyne is on the move again … this time to Mizzou. On Sunday, the former Notre Dame quarterback announced his intention to transfer to the University of Missouri.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Pyne’s decision to continue his college football career in the SEC. Pyne has been finishing up his degree at Notre Dame during the spring semester.
“From the beginning, Missouri stood out,” he told Thamel. “The program has great momentum as one of the best in the SEC and to be one of the best in the country. Being on campus and talking to the coaches, I understand why they had such a great season last year.
“I believe strongly that they are going to be a big-time player in college football. I’m hoping to contribute to that however I can.”
After starting the majority of games for the Irish in 2022, Pyne followed former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to Arizona State. Dillingham is now the Sun Devils’ head coach.
Pyne’s ASU career had a tough start. He suffered a preseason hamstring injury that prevented him from playing until Week 3. He returned to the lineup against Fresno State and played three quarters. Pyne completed 5-13 passes for 52 yards; two of his seven incompletions resulted in interceptions. He also was sacked three times and sustained a leg injury during the game.

Dillingham then selected Pyne to start the next week against Southern California. The 6-foot, 190-pound signal caller connected on 21-36 (58.3%) of throws for 221 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. ASU lost to USC 42-28. That was his last appearance with the Sun Devils.
Thamel reported that Pyne has three more years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

“We’ve been thrown into a lot of big fires, and we’ve been expected to come out and kind of just stay in that poised character. So we’ve been challenged a lot. We step up to it. We’ve been tested, and we continue to just thrive through that and fight through that.”
