Notre Dame football’s record-setting tight end could be on the move following only his first two NFL seasons.

On Friday, The Athletic reporters Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed said the Las Vegas Raiders are shopping Michael Mayer. The 23-year-old Mayer ended up on the trade block despite being the No. 35 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Mayer moved to the professional ranks following a consensus All-America campaign with the Irish in 2022. He capped his career as the program’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns among tight ends, doing so in just three seasons.

Still, that did not stop former Raiders general manager Tom Telesco from drafting Georgia tight end Brock Bowers with the No. 13 pick in last year’s draft. Bowers became a first-team All-Pro selection in his rookie season.

Meanwhile, Mayer missed six games for personal reasons and finished the season with just 21 catches for 156 yards. In 2023, his rookie season, he accounted for 37 catches for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns.
