Former Notre Dame forward Tae Davis commits to Oklahoma

Former Notre Dame forward Tae Davis committed to Oklahoma on Monday morning, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Davis has one year of eligibility, and he’ll spend it in Norman, Okla.
Davis is one of two players on the 2024-25 Irish to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The second is veteran guard J.R. Konieczny, who has yet to find a new school. Davis will also go through the NBA Draft process with the intention of earning a guaranteed contract, according to ESPN.
Notre Dame is not expected to lose any more players to the transfer portal, currently giving head coach Micah Shrewsberry 11 scholarship players for the upcoming season.
Oklahoma made the NCAA Tournament last season as a No. 9 seed under head coach Porter Moser, led by star freshman Jeremiah Fears, who recently declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. The Sooners went 13-0 in non-conference games and were the No. 12 team in the country after the non-con slate, but they went 6-12 in the ultra-competitive Southeastern Conference and eventually lost in the first round of the tournament to Connecticut.
Davis was a bright spot in Shrewsberry’s second season in South Bend, which did not go according to plan. The Irish finished 15-18 overall and 8-12 in the ACC, and lost to North Carolina in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Standing at 6-foot-9, the in-state product from Indianapolis had the ability to drive the basketball and create tough buckets for the Irish. He was also Notre Dame’s best defender, receiving a vote for ACC Defensive Player of the year. Davis can guard one through four with his length and athleticism, making him extremely valuable on that end of the floor.

Davis improved his points per game from 9.2 to 15.1 from his first to his second season with the Irish. No one will mistake him for a high-volume or high-efficiency three-point shooter, but he also improved his three-point percentage from 18.4 to a respectable 30.2.
However, with star point guard Markus Burton coming back and top-25 freshman forward Jalen Haralson coming in, the Irish might not have had room for a third ball-dominant player in its lineup. In particular, Haralson’s offensive skill might be too similar to Davis’.
Without Davis, though, Notre Dame is extremely thin in the front court and will hunt a transfer portal addition of its own. The Irish believe incoming freshman forward Brady Koehler could one day be the defensive anchor that Davis was — with a more complete offensive game — but he may need a year or two to develop.
The Irish are expected to add at least two players in the portal, one guard and one forward. They missed on their top forward target in former Nevada big man Nick Davidson, who committed to Clemson last week.
