Former Notre Dame tight end George Takacs will continue his college football career at Boston College, per Pete Thamel of ESPN. He is already enrolled and will play as a graduate transfer this fall.

The Florida native will be playing under his former position coach John McNulty, who made the move from Notre Dame to Boston College as the new offensive coordinator earlier this offseason.

Takacs recorded stats in three seasons with the Irish beginning in 2019. The 6-foot-6, 247-pound pass catcher totaled eight catches for 78 yards and two scores for the blue and gold.

He was Notre Dame’s No. 2 tight end in 2021 behind standout Michael Mayer but was targeted just four times over 407 snaps. Takacs caught three of those balls for 36 yards. His lone touchdown of the year came in Notre Dame’s season finale against Stanford.

The former four-star prospect was the No. 17 tight end, No. 60 player from Florida and No. 346 player nationally in the 2018 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He held offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon and Ohio State, among others, out of high school.

In addition to Takacs and McNulty, Boston College is the current home of former Notre Dame quarterback Phil Jurkovec.

The Pennsylvania native and former four-star recruit made the move to Chestnut Hill in 2020 and was the starter for the Eagles in 2020-21, although a hand injury derailed his 2021 season for a while.

The trio will return to South Bend this fall, as Notre Dame hosts Boston College on Nov. 19.

Details about McNulty’s new scheme are being kept under wraps for obvious reasons, but early indications are that it is less of a pro-style offense than McNulty ran at Rutgers where he was previously the offensive coordinator.

“It’s been good,” Jurkovec said, per Boston College reporter Andy Backstrom. “It’s a new offense. We have some changes, but so far it’s good. The guys are excited. It’s a little different style. So far there’s been nothing wrong. It’s been all good.”

McNulty plans to mix up the personnel packages a lot more than his predecessor, including incorporating running backs into the passing game and multiple tight end sets. That’s good news for Takacs.
