Newsstand: Former Notre Dame, Georgia Tech safety Derrik Allen chooses next stop
Former Notre Dame safety Derrik Allen is on the move to his third school. And he’s staying in the ACC.
Allen, a top-100 recruit in the Irish’s 2018 class, announced Monday he will play his sixth and final season of college football at North Carolina. He spent the last four years at Georgia Tech after transferring from Notre Dame in 2019. He joins his brother Marcus, a freshman defensive back for the Tar Heels.
Notre Dame signed Allen out of Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter High School in 2018. He was the No. 100 overall recruit and No. 10 safety in the 2018 On3 Consensus. Only three of Notre Dame’s 27 signees in its 2018 class were rated higher than him. He did not play in a game as a freshman and took a redshirt. He left the team in August 2019 and landed at Georgia Tech a few days later.
