As painful as it might be for both parties to part ways, Olivia Miles couldn’t ever have left Notre Dame without a proper goodbye. Not after four-plus years of highlight reels and overcoming adversity, ups and downs.

Tuesday night, Miles, who’s off to TCU, penned that goodbye note.

Here it is in its entirety, via a social media graphic from Miles’ account.

“Words can’t express how honored I am to have met, spoken with, and played for each of you over the past four and a half years. Your support means everything to me, and as I prepare to complete my graduate degree, I know that the University of Notre Dame will always be a key part of my story.

“To the ND coaches, staff, and alumni, thank you for believing in me and for your guidance during my early enrollment, injury, and rehab. Your leadership has truly inspired me.

“To my teammates, past and present, I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. I’m incredibly proud of our journey together and can’t wait to see us continue to grow as both players and women—you all have me for life.

“This decision has come after much thought about my future and goals. While it’s bittersweet to move on, I feel it’s the right time. I’m excited for new experiences and the work ahead that will help shape me into the best version of myself.

“Forever Irish, Olivia Miles.”

Miles has one year of eligibility remaining. She enrolled at Notre Dame in the winter of 2021 and played six games that season. She was Notre Dame’s go-to player for the next two seasons before injuring her knee in the final regular season game of her sophomore year. After sitting out her whole junior year, she averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game as a Second Team Associated Press All-American in her senior season.

Miles leaves Notre Dame as the program’s all-time leader in triple-doubles with 6. At the Irish’s best this past season, she seemed like a perfect fit playing alongside First Team AP All-American Hannah Hidalgo. Notre Dame was one of the highest scoring teams for much of the season.

But when things got tight down the stretch, the Irish offense went stagnate, and the on-court chemistry between the two — and the rest of their teammates, for that matter — went out the window. And with that, and whatever else, Miles went into the portal.
