Former Notre Dame running back Tony Jones Jr. broke into the NFL playing for Sean Payton from 2020-21. He’s reuniting with Payton at a new destination.

The Denver Broncos signed Jones Thursday, the team announced, reportedly to a one-year deal. Payton, the New Orleans Saints head coach from 2006-11 and 2013-21, took the same job with the Broncos earlier this offseason. Jones is among the familiar faces from the Saints joining him in Denver.

Jones made the Saints practice squad as an undrafted rookie in 2020 and played in the season finale when he was elevated to the active roster. He made the 53-man roster in 2021 and rushed for 142 yards on 54 carries. He had 10 carries for 24 yards in six games between the Saints and Seattle Seahawks last season. The Saints waived him in October, and the Seahawks claimed him.
