Newsstand: Four Notre Dame assistants named FootballScoop Coach of the Year finalists
On Wednesday, FootballScoop announced its finalists for several Coaches of the Year awards, including FBS coordinators and assistant coaches. Four assistants from the Notre Dame football program were recognized.
Fighting Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden, special teams coordinator Marty Biagi, running backs coach Deland McCullough and defensive backs coach Mike Mickens all received nods as finalists at their respective positions. Winners will be announced in the coming days and weeks.
According to FootballScoop, their Coach of the Year Program is the only coaching awards program where winners are selected by their fellow coaches. Coaches must have been nominated by a fellow coach to be eligible for the award, and each category’s winner is selected by prior winners of that category.
Golden, Biagi, McCullough and Mickens have never won the award. However, Biagi, McCullough and Mickens have been named finalists before. Former Irish special teams coordinator Brian Mason won Special Teams Coordinator of the Year in 2022.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day
“I’ve challenged our fans to impact the game. I don’t want them to enjoy the game. I want them to impact the game. We’ve been impacted on road games, even this first game of the year at College Station, with the crowd. It can truly impact the game. I hope our crowd truly has an impact on this game.”
