A string of Notre Dame football commitments could have very well started with offensive lineman Grayson McKeough‘s pledge to play for the Fighting Irish on Wednesday. Friday, an even more highly heralded recruit might follow in McKeough’s footsteps.

Four-star safety Joey O’Brien, a classmate of McKeough at Glenside (Pa.) La Salle College, is holding a commitment ceremony inside the La Salle College gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. ET Friday night. You can watch O’Brien make his decision between Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State and Oregon live on his Instagram account.

O’Brien is the No. 40 overall prospect and the No. 5 safety in the class of 2026 according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He would be the Irish’s second highest rated recruit in the class if he committed. The Irish currently have 17 commits, 15 of which are blue-chip recruits (four- or five-star prospects). Adding another blue-chip in the form of O’Brien would take an already great Irish class to an even better level.

Wherever he chooses to go, O’Brien feels like he cannot go wrong. He’s narrowed his preferences down to some really good options.

“I’ve been totally blessed to be in this situation,” O’Brien said. “Not a lot of kids get it. It’s just a great feeling just to have the opportunities to do what I do.”
