Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Jaden Greathouse did more than lead the Fighting Irish in receiving in a 42-3 victory over Navy on Saturday. The Austin (Texas) Westlake product also wrote his name in the Irish record books with his debut performance.

Greathouse joined former Notre Dame pass catchers Michael Floyd, DaVaris Daniels, Will Fuller and Equanimeous St. Brown as the only wide receiver to catch two touchdowns in the season opener since 1996. Floyd did it twice in 2009 and 2011, Daniels accomplished the feat in 2013, Fuller notched it in 2015 and St. Brown achieved the mark in 2016.

Greathouse is the only freshman to have caught two touchdowns in his first game since 1996.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound Greathouse’s first career reception was a 35-yard touchdown strike from Sam Hartman with 10:00 remaining in the second quarter. That gave the Irish a 21-0 edge in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.

Greathouse grabbed a second touchdown catch on another Hartman toss with 9:36 left in the third quarter. That put the Irish ahead 35-0 and firmly in the driver’s seat to secure the first season-opening victory of Marcus Freeman’s head coaching career.
