Notre Dame has 19 commitments already in the 2024 class, which is the most in the country. And Marcus Freeman and Co. are looking to add another big-time talent who is coming off the board later this month.

Fort Wayne (Ind.) North Side class of 2024 athlete Tae Johnson tweeted Saturday that he’ll be announcing his commitment in exactly two weeks on June 24.

Johnson visited Notre Dame from last Sunday to Tuesday for his first and possibly only official visit. The Fighting Irish are the favorite to land his pledge according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 95 percent.

Notre Dame is the school that he’s reportedly visited the most. He’s been to South Bend seven times, including twice this year.

Purdue — the school that very well may be Notre Dame’s biggest competition for Johnson — has hosted Johnson three times. The four-star player has been to Ohio State three times as well, but the Buckeyes have not offered him.

Purdue, Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan State, Auburn, Wisconsin, Iowa, Louisville, Colorado, Minnesota and Washington are among the schools on the offer sheet for the 6-3, 170-pounder.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 160 overall player and No. 5 “athlete.”

On3’s own rankings list him as the No. 283 recruit and No. 12 “athlete” in the country.

The Fighting Irish are recruiting Johnson as a safety. The Irish have one commitment at the position thus far in Chandler (Ariz.) High’s Kennedy Urlacher.

Tae Johnson is one of the top two-sport stars in Indiana, and he says he’s trying to change the perception of what it’s like to be a star in Indiana. Along with his accomplishments in football, Johnson averages a double-double in basketball for Fort Wayne (Indiana) North Side. As a junior in football, Johnson recorded 69 catches for 1,081 yards and 16 touchdowns. He averaged 108.1 yards a game, and he also made plays on defense with 23 tackles and a 16.7 kickoff return average. “I’m trying to change the culture,” Johnson said at the Northwest Indiana preseason media day event. “I just want to have a better legacy for the players coming up after me. I want to leave a good legacy for them by showing what it takes to win at the highest levels.” Johnson’s coach, Ben Johnson, said his star player is doing a great job of laying that foundation. “He can’t be covered,” Johnson’s coach said. “He’s got some athletic talents that few guys have. But most importantly he comes in and works hard every day. He’s a great leader that leads by example.”
