One of the top cornerbacks in the 2026 recruiting cycle still considers the Notre Dame football program one of the top contenders to receive his verbal commitment.

On Wednesday, Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield four-star cornerback Khary Adams announced a top-10 schools list that included the Fighting Irish. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, he’s the No. 130 overall player, the No. 11 cornerback nationally and the No. 4 player in Maryland in the class.

“It’s a great school, with great people and great football,” Adams told Blue & Gold on Wednesday, explaining why Notre Dame made his top 10. “What they do with the DBs (defensive backs) is crazy.”

Auburn, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Southern Cal and Syracuse also made the cut.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Adams last visited Notre Dame for the Northern Illinois game on Sept. 7. before that, he participated in one of the program’s evaluation camps on June 17.

After his performance, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman extended a scholarship offer to Adams. The Irish were the sixth Power Four school to offer him, behind Maryland, Indiana, Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

“(Freeman) was just like, ‘You have a lot of options and now another, including Notre Dame,’” Adams told Blue & Gold on June 18. “He congratulated me on the offer.”

The Hoosiers and Panthers, along with Arizona, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin, did not make his top schools list.

Last season, Adams posted 43 tackles, 2 stops for loss, 4 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. He also contributed on offense, catching 34 passes for 562 yards and 6 touchdowns

Why Notre Dame made four-star cornerbac Khary Adams top 10

The Irish have continued prioritizing Adams, the top cornerback prospect in the Northeast.

Freeman, defensive backs coach Mike Mickens and assistant to the general manager Carter Auman visited Adams at his high school on Jan. 31 during the NCAA recruiting contact period.

Notre Dame has solidified itself as an option to host Adams on an official visit. So far, he has scheduled an OV with South Carolina from May 30 to June 1.

The Irish already have one cornerback verbally committed in 2026. Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie School four-star recruit Chaston Smith pledged to Notre Dame on Dec. 1. He’s the No. 262 overall player, No. 16 cornerback in the country and No. 7 recruit in Tennessee in the class.
