Noting Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish earned the No. 7 seed in the playoff field after winning 10 consecutive games following an inexplicable Week 2 home loss to Northern Illinois. The Irish won those 10 games by an average margin of over 30 points. They were up by 24 against Indiana in the first round of the playoff before the Hoosiers scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game.
Noting Georgia: The Bulldogs are not as invincible as they were when they won back-to-back national championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, but they’re still formidable. The highlights of their season are the two wins over Texas. The Georgia defense in those two victories very much resembled the units that led the way in Kirby Smart‘s title runs. If that’s the team that shows up Wednesday, Notre Dame is in for a tough quarterfinal matchup.
