The Notre Dame football program will compete with one neighboring state school, four programs from the South and two from the West for Waxahachie (Texas) High School 2026 wide receiver Kohen Brown’s commitment.

On Wednesday, the 6-foot, 180-pound Brown announced his top eight schools: Notre Dame, Illinois, Baylor, SMU, Texas, Ole Miss, Utah and Colorado. Also, he has scheduled official visits to Utah on May 30, Texas on June 6, Notre Dame on June 13 and Ole Miss on June 20. Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman reported the news.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Brown is a three-star prospect and ranks as the No. 65 recruit in Texas, the No. 74 wide receiver nationally and the No. 471 overall player in the class of 2026.

Brown’s recruitment has seen several changes this spring. He was previously verbally committed to Southern Cal from April 2 to May 9. However, that did not keep the Fighting Irish from pursuing the No. 17 wide receiver in Texas.

Brown attended Notre Dame four-star running back pledge Javian Osborne’s commitment ceremony on May 5. Osborne, who plays his high school football about 50 miles from Brown, inspired the Irish to start recruiting Brown despite his initial declaration to the Trojans. So, Notre Dame wide receivers coach Mike Brown offered him a scholarship two days later.

“I love Coach Brown,” Kohen told Blue & Gold on May 13. “He’s definitely someone I can see myself playing for. He’s a great man, and my dad likes him a lot too.”

Within a week of his USC decommitment, Brown added offers from Texas and Colorado. The Longhorns already hold a wide receiver commit from Pearland (Texas ) Shadow Creek four-star Chris Stewart, who ranks as the No. 33 player in the state and No. 39 wide receiver nationally. The Buffaloes — as well as the Utah Utes — do not have any WR commits. Meanwhile, the other notable contender in Brown’s recruitment, Ole Miss, has three WRs committed: Birmingham (Ala.) Spain Park four-star Corey Barber, Folsom (Calif.) High three-star Jameson Powell and Niceville (Fla.) three-star Zion Legree.

Notre Dame’s fourth-ranked recruiting class features two WR pledges. Boca Raton (Fla.) Saint Andrew’s School three-star Dylan Faison was the first prospect to pledge to the Irish in the 2026 cycle. Secondly, on April 14, they added a commitment from Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School four-star Bubba Frazier. Frazier and Fasion rank as the Nos. 45 ad 95 WRs in the class, respectively.

Before Brown narrowed his recruitment, he held offers from 22 other Power Four programs. Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, UCF, SMU, Nebraska, Miami, Auburn and California were among the schools that offered him a scholarship.
