Newsstand: What LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa said about being unsure whether he fit at Notre Dame

Notre Dame landed a possible program-altering commitment when 2024 linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa announced his decision in favor of the Fighting Irish on Sunday. And apparently, the four-star recruit’s decision required divine intervention to push him toward Notre Dame.
In a commitment interview with On3 national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco product revealed that he questioned how he would fit at Notre Dame. But prayer ultimately guided him toward picking the Irish.
“Honestly, man, I couldn’t see myself there (Notre Dame), but I could at the other two schools,” Viliamu-Asa told Fawcett. “I felt God wanted me to have faith, which required trusting in what I could not see.”
The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Viliamu-Asa’s commitment announcement came after he spent about a week on a service trip with his church. He returned home late last week and pledged to the Irish on Sunday.
The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — evaluates Viliamu-Asa as the No. 109 overall player, No. 8 linebacker and No. 13 prospect in California. He has a 93.07 rating.
In On3’s own rankings, he’s the No. 27 linebacker and No. 30 prospect in California. On3 gave him a 90 rating.
Viliamu-Asa’s On3 NIL Valuation annual value is $99,000. That ranks No. 243 among high school football recruits.
