On Thursday, the Notre Dame football program learned its position in the recruitment of North Forney (Texas) High junior Legend Bey

Bey, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound athlete, announced a top 10 schools list that included the Fighting Irish, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and West Virginia. Notre Dame recruits him as a running back.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — Bey is a three-star prospect who ranks as the No. 79 player in Texas, No. 37 “athlete” nationally and No. 575 overall player in the 2026 class. In On3’s rankings, he’s the No. 30 “athlete” in America and the No. 93 player in the Lone Star State.

Bey has been atop Notre Dame’s radar for at least three months. Before former Notre Dame running backs coach Deland McCullough left the program in February for a position with the Las Vegas Raiders, he traveled to Bey’s high school in late January to offer the talented Texan a scholarship. The Irish immediately caught his attention.

“I know the academic part is really good,” Bey told Blue & Gold on Feb. 21. “Like, really, really good. That’s a big part of why I think I would like Notre Dame. I don’t want to just be a football player. I want to actually be something else. Like, more than just a football player.”

He plans to unofficially visit Notre Dame for the first time the weekend of June 20.

Where does Notre Dame stand in Bey’s recruitment?

Before Thursday’s release of his top 10, Bey held scholarship offers from 27 Power Four programs. Ole Miss, Missouri, Utah, SMU, TCU, Houston and Baylor are among the teams that did not make the cut.

In addition to his official visit to Notre Dame, Bey has OVs scheduled to West Virginia (Saturday), Duke (May 30) and Boston College (June 2). He is just three days removed from unofficially visiting Texas A&M for the first time Monday. Oklahoma has hosted him three times, more than any other school.

Last season, as the starting quarterback, he led North Forney to the second round of the Texas 6A playoffs — the highest classification in the Lone Star State. His team finished with an 8-4 record, including 5-1 in Texas District 10-6A. Afterward, the district named Bey its offensive MVP.

His production made the award a no-brainer. Bey rushed for 1,912 yards and 28 touchdowns on 163 carries (11.7 yards per carry) in 11 games. He also completed 81-162 passes for 1,444 yards and 13 touchdowns while throwing 8 interceptions.

TCU, Pittsburgh and San Diego State offered Bey the opportunity to play quarterback. However, they did not make his top 10.

Notre Dame is still searching for its first running back commit under new position coach Ja’Juan Seider. Yet, it is trending for four-star Javian Osborne, a top-100 recruit from nearby Forney (Texas) High. He announced a top two of Notre Dame and Michigan on Monday.
