What Freeman is saying

**keep refreshing this page for real-time, written updates of what Freeman is saying**

• Freeman says Notre Dame’s 35-14 win over Virginia was a great way to finish the home slate.

• Freeman: “No offense is going to be great when you put yourself behind the sticks.”

• Freeman: “We chase perfection, and we got to improve.”

• Freeman: “We got to make the makable field goals. Missing one from 42 yards is unacceptable.”

• Notre Dame players of the game vs. Virginia: Jeremiyah Love, Xavier Watts and James Rendell.

• Freeman calls Army Notre Dame’s “toughest challenge to date.” The Black Knights are undefeated.

• Freeman says Rod Heard is a “multiple position guy who has brought maturity.”

• Freeman says Mitch Jeter was comfortable kicking anything out to about 40 yards vs. Virginia. Notre Dame did not want to extend him much beyond that. It’s all about extending that line, Freeman says, in getting Jeter back to where he was at the beginning of the year.

• Freeman says Notre Dame has not heard back from the ACC about the fake punt touchdown that was called back for an illegal formation. That’s pretty poor by the league to not address such a polarizing play by this point. “It is what it is,” Freeman says.

• Freeman says Army does a good job of not letting opponents run the ball. “They’re able to move the front, be aggressive and change the leverage on you.”

• Freeman says he was told the replay booth was reviewing the UVA long ball that was called a catch, so he didn’t call a timeout. Then the Cavs snapped the ball and there was nothing Notre Dame could do. UVA scored its first touchdown a few plays later.

• Freeman: “The biggest mistake we can make is thinking this is Navy 2.0.” He says this is a totally different test for Notre Dame albeit against another service academy.

• Freeman says freshman QB CJ Carr has started his throwing progression and rehab. “That’s about it,” he says when asked about the Notre Dame first-year signal caller.

• Freeman says Notre Dame will still celebrate the fake punt even though it did not count for 7 points. “I’m dang proud of the way our guys executed that fake punt.”

• Freeman says he has no problem with Virginia calling a timeout in a 35-7 game to try to put points on the board in the final minute. “The greatest respect you can do is give it everything you got as an opponent.”

• Freeman says Notre Dame ST coach Marty Biagi’s collection of fake punt/field goal ideas is so deep he has to joke with him like, “C’mon, we’re not running that.” ND loves it. “I don’t ever, ever want to hold something back… Now we got to come up with something better.”

• Freeman says Riley Leonard running less than usual vs. Virginia was a product of him keeping his eyes downfield and going through progressions, which the Notre Dame coaches were proud of.

• Freeman says he remembers when Jack Swarbrick told him the Shamrock Series game was going to be against Army, his first thought was, “C’mon Jack, Army and Navy in the same year?” But once he learned the history of the Four Horsemen he was all in. He says it’s a great honor to take part in a game like this.
