What Freeman is saying
• Starting off with a question about instilling an aggressive mindset in his players, Freeman said it’s important to have the right mindset “every single day they’re in this building.” When Notre Dame has an opportunity to run a fake punt, he said, “I think our players believe in that. … We have to not just say things.”
• Asked about his name being floated for potential NFL head coaching jobs, Freeman said it’s an example of “team glory leading to individual glory.”
“When you do your job and everybody gets their job done and have success, there are gonna be certain individuals each week who have individual glory.”

He also said he tries not to waste time thinking about “things that aren’t in the moment.”
“I have no clue. I don’t even know what [coaching in the NFL] entails, because I’ve never done it.”
• Army is a “three yards and a cloud of dust” team, Freeman explained. Keeping the Black Knights out of rhythm as they go downfield is of utmost importance for Notre Dame.
• Asked about 30-year-old army veteran and Notre Dame kickoff specialist Eric Goins, Freeman said he was able to “share his wisdom” during fall camp and he’s done his job on game days. He hasn’t talked about his experience in the military this week as the Irish prepare to face Army, because he has a job to do on Saturdays.
• Tyler Buchner has been the scout-team quarterback this week.
“He’s done an outstanding job of understanding the details that this offense truly entails.”
• Asked about Gino Guidugli, Freeman said he’s been incredibly important for Riley Leonard’s improvement throughout the season. He also said Guidugli has to be able to be on the same page as Mike Denbrock at all times, because Notre Dame is a somewhat uncommon team where the offensive coordinator is not the quarterbacks coach.
“Gino Guidugli has done a wonderful job and is a huge asset to this program.”
• Playing cleaner and with better technique has been a point of emphasis for the offensive line this week, Freeman said.
“We all know that any penalty, especially those penalties on Saturday, is unacceptable.”
• That’s everything from Freeman today.
