No. 10 Notre Dame faces No. 25 Louisville on Saturday night at L&N Federal Credit Union in Louisville, Ky. Follow BlueandGold.com‘s live game updates, score and analysis in this story, which will update as the game moves along.

First quarter

• Louisville won the toss and elected to defer. Sam Hartman and company will start with the football.

• Hartman throws his first interception of the season, looking for Rico Flores Jr. Quincy Riley made the pick for the Cardinals. Louisville ball at its own 30-yard line.

• Touchdown, Louisville. It’s star wide receiver Jamari Thrash. Sophomore Vyper Joshua Burnham beat his man off the ball, but he couldn’t get Louisville QB Jack Plummer down, and Plummer finds his No. 1 target. Louisville 7, Notre Dame 0.

• Hartman is sacked on the nickel cornerback blitz. Ramon Puryear finished the play. Ugly start for the Irish, who will have to stop Louisville from the Cardinals’ own 32-yard line.

• Graduate defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah sacked Plummer, which stalled Louisville’s second drive. Great coverage by Clarence Lewis on Kevin Coleman Jr. on third down, and Notre Dame gets of the field. A touchback gives the Irish the ball back at their own 20-yard line.

• That’s the end of the first quarter. You’re likely not feeling very good if you’re a Notre Dame fan, but it’s a 7-point game and the Irish have the ball. Third-and-7 coming up. End of the first quarter: Louisville 7, Notre Dame 0.

Second quarter

• Billy Schrauth, in at left guard for the series, got driven back into Hartman on third down. Hartman gets sacked. Notre Dame punts.

• Linebackers Marist Liufau and Jaylen Sneed combined to sack Plummer, getting the Notre Dame defense off the field. Chris Tyree let the punt roll to the 12-yard line of the Irish.

• Rico Flores Jr. went down on the field during the Notre Dame offensive drive.

• The Irish tie the game. Walk-on freshman wide receiver Jordan Faison, in his first in-game action in college football, breaks free deep for a 36-yard touchdown reception from Hartman. What a play, what a story — Faison’s primary sport is lacrosse. Notre Dame 7, Louisville 7.

• A Benjamin Morrison pass breakup and a JD Bertrand sack force a three-and-out. The Irish have life, and they have the football.

• Louisville forced an Irish punt, but the Cardinals lined up offsides on the punt. Notre Dame keeps the ball.

• Notre Dame fumbles the exchange on a tricky handoff to Chris Tyree on third-and-1. Ashton Gillotte got in there for Louisville, and the Cardinals recover. Louisville ball near midfield.

• Louisville runs a QB sweep on third-and-short, which Xavier Watts snuffs out and uses his excellent closing speed to tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Hartman and company will start at their own 20-yard line, and they have 1:23 to work with.

• Notre Dame went three-and-out in 33 seconds, giving Louisville the ball back. A line-drive punt gives the Cardinals great field position with 39 seconds left in the first half.

View All

• Louisville kicker Brock Travelstead’s 42-yard field goal attempt is no good. Hartman takes a knee. That’s halftime. Notre Dame 7, Louisville 7.

Third quarter

• On the first play of the quarter, Cam Hart made a play. Hart stripped the ball from Thrash, recovering it himself and giving the ball back to Notre Dame at the Louisville 39-yard line.

• Spencer Shrader’s 53-yard field goal attempt is good, but it should have been a touchdown. Tyree broke behind the defense and couldn’t adjust to a farther-outside-than-expected throw from Hartman. He will probably tell you he should have caught it. Still, Irish lead. Notre Dame 10, Louisville 7.

• Louisville kicks a field goal attempt on fourth-and-1 from the Irish 26-yard line. It’s good from 44 yards, as Travelstead redeems the 42-yard miss. The game is tied. Notre Dame 10, Louisville 10.

• The Irish did not block a soul on a third-and-1 handoff to sophomore running back Gi’Bran Payne. Louisville takes over at its own 36-yard line after the punt.

• Touchdown, Louisville. Jordan just ran past everyone. Marist Liufau and DJ Brown had tackling angles, but they were gone very quickly. It’s a 45-yard run for the score, and the Cardinals retake the lead. Louisville 17, Notre Dame 10.

• Notre Dame doesn’t block for the second-straight third-and-short. The Irish are now 2/10 on third downs, but Shrader’s leg salvages 3 points from 54 yards out. He tied the Notre Dame record (set by Shrader). Louisville 17, Notre Dame 13.

Fourth quarter

• Jawhar Jordan does it again. He has 17 rushes for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns, carrying the Cardinals to a 24-13 lead. It’s the 11th hour for the Irish with 11:12 to play in the game. Louisville 21, Notre Dame 14.

• The ensuing Irish possession goes four-and-out. The Irish went for it on fourth-and-11, but Hartman was under pressure and had to fire it incomplete. A touchdown for Louisville, still up by 11, would end the game. 9:42 to go.

• After getting the ball back, Hartman is intercepted. That will just about do it.

• Travelstead’s 32-yard field goal after the interception is good. Louisville 30, Notre Dame 13.

• Hartman is strip-sacked on fourth down. 3:34 left. That’s the end of the live game updates from BlueandGold.com. This one is done.
