Hyde’s first reaction to the Patterson injury
“That’s two consecutive springs now he’s missed,” Hyde said. “I know he’s a veteran, he’s been a starter, he’s been in the program, he’s been a team captain, fifth year, all that good stuff. But why did he return? That’s the first thing I thought about. The man returned to work with Harry Hiestand, and now he can’t work with Harry Hiestand. Standing on the sideline with your arm in the sling is not the same as getting reps with Harry Hiestand…That was my first instinct. I felt bad for him.”
It was announced on Saturday that Patterson tore his pectoral and will have surgery. He may return for fall camp, but even that timeline is in question. He missed spring ball last year after suffering a foot injury against Boston College in November 2020.

Takes on the NFL Combine
Notre Dame had five players participate in the NFL Combine last weekend, and you can find the results here.
Who does the Blue & Gold staff think could have a surprisingly good career at the next level? Both Singer and Hyde took defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa.
“He’s a locker room guy,” Hyde said. “He’s played it all. He’s been a team captain. The man’s father died, he buries his dad, and he’s back instantly getting ready to play football. He’s a team guy, and in the NFL so many of those defenses are interchangeable nowadays. He’s going to find a home. He’s going to make a roster somewhere. He’s too good of a guy not to make it.”
