Former Notre Dame kicker Zac Yoakam has committed to Houston, he announced on social media Thursday morning. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Yoakam is the fourth and final former Fighting Irish to find a new school in the spring portal, following Kennedy Urlacher (USC), Steve Angeli (Syracuse) and Rino Monteforte (California).

As a freshman in 2022, Yoakam handled kickoff duties for the Irish. He produced 50 touchbacks and 7 fair catches in 78 attempts, only allowing 19 return opportunities. He filled in for an injured Mitch Jeter (groin) during the 2024 season, going 2-of-5 on field-goal attempts with a long of 42. He also made all 18 of his extra-point attempts.

Yoakam would likely have been Notre Dame’s third-string kicker in 2025. The Irish brought in graduate transfer Noah Burnette from North Carolina, and Erik Schmidt, the No. 2 high school kicker in the nation, arrives in June. He’ll have a greater opportunity with the Cougars.

Quote of the day

“The whole season, I didn’t care what other people thought, but I didn’t want to let my teammates down. That would’ve been my biggest fear. Every game, I was like, ‘Dude, I want to win this game for my guys. They’ve done so much for me. They helped me out through injuries. I just want to do it for them. Do it for them.’ So for them to say thank you at the end of the season was definitely the most emotional I’ve been in a long time.”
