Newsstand: Former Notre Dame women’s basketball stars post elite performances over weekend
Former Notre Dame athletes are scattered all throughout professional athletics, but the Irish women’s basketball alums are performing at an eye-popping level just a few weeks into the WNBA season.
Guards Arike Ogunbowale and Marina Mabrey are teammates once again for the Dallas Wings (4-2), and they ran the show in a 94-78 win over the Minnesota Lynx (1-6) on Saturday. Mabrey led the team with 22 points and Ogunbowale was just behind at 20. Jessica Shepard and Kayla McBride, both of whom play for Minnesota, had 14 points each.
On the season, Ogunbowale is averaging 19.7 points and 3.8 assists per contests, leading the team in both categories. She had a season-high 37 points in a 94-84 win over the Phoenix Mercury (2-4) on Thursday.

Phoenix boasts former Irish stars Skylar Diggins-Smith and Brianna Turner. Diggins-Smith leads the team with 17 points per game this year and had 25 points against the Las Vegas Aces (6-1) in a 100-80 loss on Saturday. Former No. 1 overall WNBA Draft pick in 2019 Jackie Young leads the Aces in points (19.3) and steals (two) per game.
