Newsstand: Notre Dame infielder Estevan Moreno on historic hot streak
Only 11 games into his second season, Notre Dame infielder Estevan Moreno made program history Tuesday night. Moreno blasted 3 home runs in a game for the third time in his career, which no Irish baseball player had ever done before.
Notre Dame’s 11-2 win over Purdue in its home opener at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend was Moreno’s second 3-homer game this week, following Saturday’s 15-11 road win over Tennessee Tech. His first 3-homer outing came in a 10-7 win over Virginia on April 21 of last season.
Moreno had been hitting .250 entering Tuesday, but his slugging percentage was .667, good for third on the Irish. That number certainly went up after his titanic performance against the Boilermakers, in which he drove in 4 runs on his 3 long balls.
The Irish are hot out of the gate so far in 2024, starting the season 9-2. They go back on the road for a series against Virginia Tech from Friday-Sunday in Blacksburg, Va.

Quote of the day
“B-Mo, man, he’s a little gnat. That dude was in my back pocket since Day 1. He had traits that I didn’t have as a freshman. He’s always trying to get better. I’m not saying I wasn’t trying to get better, but this dude, he’s extremely hungry. Since Day 1, he’s finding ways to get better, finding ways to get extra work on the field. He’s texting me at all times of the night trying to watch film and learn certain things about the defense. He’s always just worried about getting better. I always tell him just to relax a little bit, it’s going to work out. He has intangibles, but there’s no relax in that dude.”
