The opening line is out for Notre Dame’s 2024 season opener at Texas A&M, and the Irish are road underdogs with over eight months until kickoff. According to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Aggies as a 1.5-point favorite.

Typically, home teams get a 3-point bump when the line is set. With that assumption, FanDuel believes Notre Dame would be a 1.5-favorite over Texas A&M at a neutral site and a 4.5-point favorite at home. The Irish will face the Aggies on Aug. 31 at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M went 7-6 in 2023, losing to Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. The Aggies fired now-former head coach Jimbo Fisher on Nov. 12 and hired former Duke head coach Mike Elko, who was Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator in 2017.

Elko coached new Irish quarterback Riley Leonard and defensive end R.J. Oben with the Blue Devils. He led Duke to a 9-4 record in 2022 and a 7-5 record in 2023, but the latter season was derailed by the ankle injury Leonard suffered against the Irish on Sept. 30.

Quote of the day

“It’s really her timeline. She’s doing really great. She’s progressing a little bit more. It’s an individual timeline. It’s hard to put that in words, but she is kind of going off her individual comfort level. But she is improving every week. Week by week, she is getting better.”
