Jack Coan and Kevin Austin Jr. did what they needed to do. Austin may have done much more.

On Friday, the former Notre Dame quarterback and wide receiver took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the first day of NFL Combine workouts. They were in the same workout group.

Coan kicked off the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.87. His second attempt came in at 4.93, so he kept the first time as the official one. Austin exceeded expectations in his 40 attempt, posting an unofficial 40 time of 4.37, which was ultimately 4.43 when the official results were released.

Additional measurables and details about the drill work can be found here on our live blog from Thursday.

Coan and Austin entered the day as fringe Day 3 draft picks, and they certainly look like they will both get a call before all is said and done in Las Vegas in April. Austin may have actually cemented himself as an earlier Day 3 selection. The picture will become more clear as the draft approaches and Notre Dame hosts its pro day March 25.
