Newsstand: Two Notre Dame signees to play in Polynesian Bowl
Two Notre Dame signees are headed to the Polynesian Bowl. Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and wide receiver Logan Saldate will play in the high school all-star game at 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 19 at Kūnuiākea Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The game will be broadcast on NFL Network.
This will be Viliamu-Asa’s second all-star game before he enrolls at Notre Dame later this month. The No. 63 player in the On3 Industry Ranking played in the All-American Bowl on Saturday in San Antonio, where he was named a top overall performer for his work in practice and in the game by On3.
“In a position group that usually struggles to shine in All-American settings, linebacker Viliamu-Asa managed to put on a very strong showing during practices and the game,” On3 national scout Cody Bellaire said. “To say that Viliamu-Asa was flying all over the field is an understatement. His ability to trigger to the football is special. The Notre Dame signee’s ability to sniff out the play before the snap is elite.”
Saldate, No. 337 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, was one of the country’s biggest risers after his productive senior season at Salinas (Calif.) Palma. He’ll enroll at Notre Dame in June.

Notre Dame Tweets of the day
Former Marshall wide receiver/kickoff returner Jayden Harrison committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Big overtime win for the Irish in men’s basketball.
The Irish will be part of a very interesting Week 1 in college football next season.
Quote of the day
“Sources on the Irish side tell Blue & Gold that Harrison brings 4.3/4.4-second 40-yard dash speed and can play in the field, boundary or slot. We’ve heard really good things about Harrison’s competitive nature and how he’ll be able to push the receivers in the room. He obviously provides tremendous value on special teams and boosts the receiver room.
“What Harrison has done at Marshall will be similar to the role he’ll have at Notre Dame — make several explosive plays in the return game per year (he has 1,522 career kickoff return yards on 60 attempts) and be a solid, consistent contributor as a receiver — potentially as a third or fourth option.”
— Blue & Gold recruiting insider Mike Singer
